Konami’s decision to remake *Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater* was partly driven by the company’s concern that younger gamers are unfamiliar with the franchise’s legacy, a senior official recently revealed. This insight adds depth to the previously known details about the remake of *MGS 3: Snake Eater*.
In May 2023, Konami expressed openness to remaking more *Metal Gear Solid* titles after *MGS Delta*. A company representative mentioned that the decision to start with *Snake Eater* rather than the first game in the series was driven by fan demand.
However, fan demand was not the sole motivator behind Konami’s push for *MGS* remakes. A significant factor was the growing concern about the franchise’s diminishing relevance. Noriaki Okamura, the series producer, shared his thoughts in a recent interview with *Play* magazine (via GamesRadar), emphasizing that many younger gamers are no longer familiar with *Metal Gear*. This shift in gaming demographics was one of the key reasons behind the decision to move forward with a remake of *Snake Eater*.
Appealing to Both Old and New Audiences
As a result, *Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater* is being designed not just for long-time fans but also with the intention of attracting new players. With *Snake Eater* approaching its 20th anniversary on November 17, a new generation of gamers has likely never experienced the title. Furthermore, even *MGS5: The Phantom Pain* is approaching its 10th anniversary, underscoring the need for a major new release to keep the franchise relevant.
The Name Change Reflects Broader Appeal
The decision to title the remake *Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater* instead of using the original name was made with both old and new fans in mind. As Okamura explained, *Snake Eater* is the first chronologically in the *Metal Gear* timeline, and as the first game in the series to receive a remake, it made sense not to number it.
Although *MGS Delta: Snake Eater* was initially rumored to be released in late 2024, it currently lacks an official release date or window. As of now, the remake seems unlikely to arrive before the first half of 2025.
